Navigating city regulations and GPS challenges to improve parking experience

City regulation on e-scooters pose parking challenges for our riders to park near their destination. Moreover, a trip can only end in permitted parking zones. Coupled with unreliable GPS, this could lead to undesirable user experiences. Our goal is to improve this journey thoroughly, all while strictly maintaining compliance with diverse city regulation across our operating markets.

1

Understanding the landscape and competitors

We did an review on how the current end trip flow works for all markets as each might have different rules. We also checked on what our competitors are currently doing.

2

Digest the current implementation and technical capabilities

Together with Engineering team, we need to have a better view on how the current implementation look like and identify the edge-cases. Since we are using Google ARCore, we also carefully understand what it does and come up with an intuitive user experience.

1

Rider-centric localisation

We collaborated with the Communications team, who have been gatekeeping all the terminologies used in various markets. However, those terminologies are city council’s focused and don’t make sense to our end-users, the riders. We applied product design principles and backed them up with testing with the local team to back our idea to convince our team internally.

2

Staggered roll-outs while fixing the kinks

We asked the operation team to help us test a few use cases to ensure that it’s working as expected and also to give it a spin in a real-world scenario. My Senior PM orchestrated the staggered roll-out, starting from staff-only to close group and slowly opening up to more cities. This is helpful where it helps with the speed to market, learning and fixing it along the way.
